Panraven Community Guidelines

Member Pledge

Panraven is a place where people can store, organize and share a wide variety of media, including photos, images, videos and text and then create rich, expressive stories to preserve their memories and connect with friends, family and a broader community. Members can create their own stories or collaborate on stories with others, then share them for online viewing or print them in professional quality books. The following member pledge provides the foundation for how Panraven members foster this spirit of community:

As a Panraven member I will:

  1. Show respect for others within and outside the Panraven community.

  2. I will not insult or offend other people. I will not demonstrate or promote abuse, harassment, prejudice, hatred or injury towards any individual or group.

  3. Always represent myself honestly.

  4. I will not impersonate or be untruthful in an effort to deceive, defraud or take advantage of others.

  5. Abide by applicable local, state, federal, and international intellectual property laws and regulations.

  6. I will not violate or infringe on protected trademarks or patents of others. I will have proper written consent before including copyrighted content on the Panraven site and will provide proper credit or attribution to the rightful owner or author. For complete Fair Use Guidelines within the Unites States, I will refer to the US Copyright Office http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html.

  7. Not engage in "spamming" or malicious activity.

  8. I will not use any Panraven feature or function to send repeated unwanted communications (i.e. solicitations, personal, commercial or otherwise) to members or non-members nor will I attempt to distribute viruses or propaganda. Upon request, I will immediately cease all attempts to make contact, regardless of my purpose or intent.

  9. Use content and media labels to index appropriately.

  10. I understand that labels are a method of organization and agree to use only those that accurately describe my content and media on the Panraven site.

  11. Use best judgment and discretion and in sharing media and stories, whether selectively or publicly.

  12. Panraven is a community for people of many ages, lifestyles, cultures and nationalities. I understand that Panraven members have different personalities, tastes, and preferences, and what one may find humorous, another may find offensive. Furthermore, I recognize that legal minors (i.e. those under the age of 18 in the U.S.) use Panraven's services and participate in the community, and that U.S. law is sensitive to and in some cases prohibits access to certain types of content by minors.

Please be advised: Content and media containing nudity, pornography, excessive profanity and graphic violence are particularly sensitive and will be subject to immediate removal from the site if shared inappropriately. Any media containing illegal activity (e.g. childhood pornography), whether private or shared, will be reported to the appropriate legal authorities.

  13. Flag content and media appropriately.

  14. As Panraven does not actively police its site, I understand the company relies on members of the community to accurately report abuse and file complaints. I agree only to flag content and media in accordance with these Community Guidelines and the Panraven Terms of Service. I understand that there are 4 different types of abuse: 1) illegal activity, 2) expression of hatred, prejudice, harassment or intent to injure an individual or group, 3) nudity and/or sexual acts inappropriate for a public forum, and 4) copyright orintellectual property infringement. Panraven will expeditiously review all claims and, as warranted, take action ranging from unsharing non-private media or content to removal of illegal or prohibited media or content.

  15. Review and follow Panraven's complete policies and Terms of Service.

  16. Whenever in doubt, I will review the Terms of Service and contact membersupport@panraven.com for clarification on any item or issue. Panraven reserves the right to a) alter these Community Guidelines and the Terms of Service at any time and b) remove a member’s media and/or content or terminate a member’s account for any reason.

Audio and Video Tips

Uploading and using copyright-infringing media or content can lead to the termination of your Panraven account and possible monetary damages if you are sued by a copyright holder. Because illegal sharing and copying of audio and video on the internet has become particularly problematic over the past several years, we have compiled some helpful tips to follow to remain a Panraven member in good standing and avoid legal trouble. Keep in mind, this list just includes the basics. For a more comprehensive explanation, visit the US Copyright Office website at http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html.

  1. Commercial content and media is copyrighted. Examples include the following:

  2. a. Commercials

    b. Recorded audio tracks and music videos

    c. Movies and movie trailers

    d. TV shows

    e. Videos of live concerts

  3. Taped or recorded TV programming and media or content downloaded from the internet are copyrighted.

  4. Copyrighted media or content that is edited (e.g. combining multiple clips, adding original work to copyrighted clips) is still copyrighted. In many cases, taking copyrighted media or content out of its original form can have additional legal consequences.

  5. You must obtain written permission from the copyright holder. It is insufficient to merely provide attribution to the copyright holder on the Panraven site.

  6. Most videos have two media components integrated together, the motion picture and the sound accompanying it. If you create your own video clip or have written permission to use one on the Panraven site and intend to add a separate audio track to it (e.g. a sound recording owned by a record label), you must ensure that you have the rights to use it as well. Not doing so will cause the entire video to infringe upon established copyrights.
